No Strings Attached

Well, we have some big updates to share! Loie is officially OFF her oxygen 24/7!! Her sweet little face without the canula is the cutest thing! She is loving it! And even better, she is gaining a ton of weight, so we know she isn't struggling at all :) She just had a checkup with the pulmonologist and got the all clear to continue without the O2! Yay!! We have been cautiously optimistic, but it seems she is going just great and enjoying the freedom. She also weighs 12 and a half pounds now! Her previous weight check, to now, shows that she gained about 15 ounces in 2 weeks! She used to be on the low end of the goal, but now she is above it! She is also drooling like a Saint Bernard, so she MUST be getting teeth... right?? they are stubborn though, I can't see anything peeking through just yet.
Also, Lennon FINALLY said Mama!!!!! Be still my heart, it only took 26 months, but I am so grateful to hear that word from his mouth! The other morning I walked in to get him up out of bed, and as always, I greeted him. Then he said, "mama." and I said, "yes! mama!! HI!" cause I couldn't think of anything better- it caught me off guard! and he said "Hi." right back. Aw, my sweet boy... He is so smart. He has started counting - He picked up two plastic toy hotdog buns (of all things... ? ?) and he began throwing them in the air, yelling ONE! TWOOO!"  I've heard him get up to 3 a couple times, and then the numbers turn into random noises, or he goes back to one. :D  he's so cute! and he loves to say his colors. He likes to grab nanny's exercise bands and whip them around shouting 'Gweeee!"  or "Bluuuu!" or "red."-He doesn't yell "red" he just calmly says  it. lol. He understands and knows so much, he just struggles to get it out and share with the world. We have always had to learn Lennon's language and help him to express himself by meeting him in his 'world.' Now, he is returning the favor.
Loie is probably going to be discharged from her home health visits soon. Sad times, but it's a good thing overall. She is doing well and there won't be the medical necessity anymore to keep such a watchful eye. Then, she will be referred to Infant Toddler Program for physical therapy visits, possibly once a month? not sure yet. I asked her OT the other day if she thinks Loie will be able to sit unassisted, and she instantly responded with a confident "oh yes!" Just a matter of "when." she is so close!! It's good to see so much progress in our little ones. And it's nice to have them just be kids.. It's nice to pick up Loie on a whim and walk around the house... oh my goodness with NO WIRES or tubes!! She is so portable! It's all nice. :)

This coming week is going to be a full one, with lots of big appointments and also the usual fanfare thrown in for good measure. To update, Loie has indeed been discharged from her home health care nurse :( Sad face, only because we love Sami and will miss her boisterous personality coming through our door, giving us helpful advice, smiles, and always confident hope! Thank you Sami for seeing us through the rough transition from NICU to home. You have been our training wheels so to speak, and you are not just a nurse, but you are a mom who "gets it" too. I can't believe it has been six months since we took Loie home from the hospital.... Loie weighs exactly 13 pounds now, as of her latest appointment. She had a brief time where she was teetering and even lost a little bit of weight, because we've all been hit hard with autumn-time illnesses. Poor Lennon woke up one night, on FIRE with a 104 degree fever-turns out was caused by strep throat. :( Loie developed a rattl...

This is our normal

A snapshot of our week: Home health care nurse visit Neurology eval Pediatrician followup Infant toddler program visit Occupational therapy .... that was the first day... Next day was ophthalmology followup (every two weeks) more OT Norco medical supply delivery (twice because at 9 pm the oximeter went kaput and they did a night delivery) And so on. I am in a constant state of worry that I've forgotten some important appointment. Ah the life of a "medically fragile/complex" family! Loie is growing! She met her last weight goal, low side, but still met it! She's at 7 lbs 12 now! Struggling to increase her volume of intake cause she spits up a TON and gets refluxy. She has started smiling at her jingly toys! She likes the sound I think :) this is a huge deal to us! Seeing her smile is another big milestone and we are grateful for each one! She also lifts her head really well during tummy time! No "cooing" yet, which is ok cause really she's ki...

Belonging/ Soul Therapy

Day 4 Belonging There is this "club." You join this club when you are a parent who loses a child. You don't have a title as an official member- there isn't one. You join silently. You don't get a big ceremony with other members. You quietly meet them by finding them in areas of your day to day life, and you share a sad knowing smile. You feel their support and you find some solace in the fact that they are the only ones who "get it." No one wants to be in this club. I hate it. But i don't get to quit or unjoin, and I am a known member. Other people in my life now treat me as a known member. When i meet new people, i have a choice to reveal my membership upfront, or have it revealed later,  because at some point, with any real relationship, it will be. There is a sense of separateness within me. Often it is imagined and created by myself. How do I relate to people now? I don't know. Not yet.. I'm still figuring out who I am now. It's o...
