My Little Love

Two years ago today, we became parents to the sweetest, funniest little boy in the world.
My little Ray of sunshine! Lennon Ray...
There are no words for how much I love this kid... He truly has been my shining light through all the recent darkness in our world, and without him, I would be lost.
Happy 2nd Birthday Mr. Lennon! keep being You, Beautiful Boy.

Lennon is motivated by songs and by exciting actions, so he is motivated to "talk" via songs we sing. For example, we sing "I'm a Little Tea Pot" and he watches intensely, a smile on his face building as we approach the last line..."TIP me over and pour me........"   we wait in anticipation......

"Owwww!"
Yay!!! It's a start!

we also keep doing "ready... set........"
"Goooo!"

He loves to say GO and it is one of his words he says throughout his day, as well as "nnnnOOoo" in a funny sing song way, and of course, Apple! He also tried to say "color" which came out like "cawwwcoo" and he tries to say "baby" which is awesome! he has come over to Loie a few times and touched her little toes, and one time he gave her one of his flash cards he likes to carry around. :) He might be warming up to her after all..

Loie weighs 9 lbs 10 ounces! She is gaining more steadily and more rapidly now, which has been the goal overall! She is such a happy baby.... Reminds me of someone :) Her brother was just the same. Sooooo chill and happy 90% of the time. And mostly very very quiet, until she is hungry... then WAAAAAAAH !!! until the bottle is in her mouth. Hunger sneaks up on her like that. She is full of so many smiles for us, and yesterday, she alllllllmost laughed.... seriously the best sound ever! This girl is unstoppable. She still does great with her tummy time and loves to snuggle and "sit up" to look around her, very alert and into what is going on.
Pulmonology went well the other day, we are increasing her weaning from her O2 to twice a day, 30-60 minutes off her oxygen. She seems to tolerate that very well. Her head shape is evening out some, I of course, see it so prominently because I am looking for it, but I have faith that as she gets stronger and spends more time upright or on her tummy, it will even out completely without intervention.
Coming up soon, they have their first tandem pediatrician visit! so cute! we don't go out all together very much at all, so that should be fun. Loie then has the NICU followup clinic, which I hear is a lengthy 3 hour intensive all around checkup. Then she has Neurology checkup, and gastroenterology. (since she had such bad reflux and vomiting episodes) we put in that referral a while ago, and are finally next in line to be seen!
I am sad to say, Loie's luscious locks of hair are falling out.... we kinda figured, since most all babies lose their first hair. Justin and I think she is going to keep her brown curly hair though, and it won't change much. That's just what we envision. who knows!

Lennon ate some more spaghetti last night! I should have gotten a picture... what an unbelievable mess. He is eating a little bit better lately... but sleeping HORRIBLY. He stays up past midnight some nights, bouncing off the walls like a mad man. Then, he wakes up at 8 am, or 9 am ready to go. then the next day, refuses to take a nap, so he is inconsolable, "hot mess" status by 6pm. Transitioning to his terrible twos is a lot of work apparently, and he is having a rough time of it. He just wants to steal mom's phone, watch elmo, and jump up and down while eating dirty floor skittles all day. is that too much to ask?? Actually, doesn't sound half bad to me.

This coming week is going to be a full one, with lots of big appointments and also the usual fanfare thrown in for good measure. To update, Loie has indeed been discharged from her home health care nurse :( Sad face, only because we love Sami and will miss her boisterous personality coming through our door, giving us helpful advice, smiles, and always confident hope! Thank you Sami for seeing us through the rough transition from NICU to home. You have been our training wheels so to speak, and you are not just a nurse, but you are a mom who "gets it" too. I can't believe it has been six months since we took Loie home from the hospital.... Loie weighs exactly 13 pounds now, as of her latest appointment. She had a brief time where she was teetering and even lost a little bit of weight, because we've all been hit hard with autumn-time illnesses. Poor Lennon woke up one night, on FIRE with a 104 degree fever-turns out was caused by strep throat. :( Loie developed a rattl...

This is our normal

A snapshot of our week: Home health care nurse visit Neurology eval Pediatrician followup Infant toddler program visit Occupational therapy .... that was the first day... Next day was ophthalmology followup (every two weeks) more OT Norco medical supply delivery (twice because at 9 pm the oximeter went kaput and they did a night delivery) And so on. I am in a constant state of worry that I've forgotten some important appointment. Ah the life of a "medically fragile/complex" family! Loie is growing! She met her last weight goal, low side, but still met it! She's at 7 lbs 12 now! Struggling to increase her volume of intake cause she spits up a TON and gets refluxy. She has started smiling at her jingly toys! She likes the sound I think :) this is a huge deal to us! Seeing her smile is another big milestone and we are grateful for each one! She also lifts her head really well during tummy time! No "cooing" yet, which is ok cause really she's ki...

Belonging/ Soul Therapy

Day 4 Belonging There is this "club." You join this club when you are a parent who loses a child. You don't have a title as an official member- there isn't one. You join silently. You don't get a big ceremony with other members. You quietly meet them by finding them in areas of your day to day life, and you share a sad knowing smile. You feel their support and you find some solace in the fact that they are the only ones who "get it." No one wants to be in this club. I hate it. But i don't get to quit or unjoin, and I am a known member. Other people in my life now treat me as a known member. When i meet new people, i have a choice to reveal my membership upfront, or have it revealed later,  because at some point, with any real relationship, it will be. There is a sense of separateness within me. Often it is imagined and created by myself. How do I relate to people now? I don't know. Not yet.. I'm still figuring out who I am now. It's o...
