Five Month Old / "Apple YOU!"

This got lost in the interwebs, thought i posted it a while ago!:

Miss Loie is officially a five month old!
Five months ago, she made her debut, with a pitiful "Mew" kitten cry. I love this kid. :)
Much of the day was spent with her and myself driving around Boise and Meridian.
She saw the cranio/facial "head shape" specialist. Probably the quickest office visit she has had to-date. Nothing, compared to her 3 hour long ophthalmology appointments.... ughhhhh. This one was easy, he examined her head shape, measured, and said that he can tell her head was pretty bad, but that it is looking much better now. No Toritcollis. No Craniosynostosis. She does not need a helmet right now! yay! Follow up in two months, and we keep fighting the good fight, trying to keep her from always lying on that same side. Also, random quirk of the day, the doctor says to me, "Loie? I haven't heard that name in a long time!" and I said, "Oh? but you've heard it?" and he said, "Oh, yes, my next door neighbor growing up was named Loie."  huh! well, that was neat!
Anyway, after that, we spent waaaaay longer than necessary waiting in NORCO to get some supplies. With the holiday last week, we missed our delivery/order date (my bad) so we had to go in to pick up some things, and I guess we weren't the only ones! Loie was very patient, and was such a good girl. She attracted some attention of a few onlookers while there.....I guess she's kinda cute :P
We've had no more choking/seizure/I don't know what - episodes, so that's good! She's eating well, though her volumes, I know, aren't what her nurses/doctors what them to be yet. She still fits into her newborn sized clothes. So, she's petite?? It's okay! Micro-preemie problems.
Upcoming is her (hopefully) last (for a little while) ophthalmology appointment, which we hope to see no more signs of ROP! And her usual nurse and OT/PT visits.
Loie likes to smile and alllllmost laugh at her dangly jingly toys! And she loves to watch her big brother when he runs by like a crazy person! So Sweet!! She also thought it was pretty funny yesterday, when Dad was changing her poopy diaper. No reason. Just funny to her. Ha!
Lennon is getting more and more Two-Year-Old-y, if I can make that a term. He is getting more of this independent attitude! He gets really mad if he can't do what he was setting out to do, such as take the AC/ Heating vents apart, and insert arms or legs into the floor. Or dart outside without shoes or shirt, or any fair warning to us..... He also has bitten us a few times.... yikes! Trying to put an end to THAT right away! The other day, he was being naughty, and Justin firmly told him, "NO!" and Lennon stopped, gave him a dirty look, and said, "APPLE!"  one of the few words he knows how to say. hahahahah!! but his message was clear! What a funny kid. We might start using Apple as a swear word around here. What the Apple??!

This coming week is going to be a full one, with lots of big appointments and also the usual fanfare thrown in for good measure. To update, Loie has indeed been discharged from her home health care nurse :( Sad face, only because we love Sami and will miss her boisterous personality coming through our door, giving us helpful advice, smiles, and always confident hope! Thank you Sami for seeing us through the rough transition from NICU to home. You have been our training wheels so to speak, and you are not just a nurse, but you are a mom who "gets it" too. I can't believe it has been six months since we took Loie home from the hospital.... Loie weighs exactly 13 pounds now, as of her latest appointment. She had a brief time where she was teetering and even lost a little bit of weight, because we've all been hit hard with autumn-time illnesses. Poor Lennon woke up one night, on FIRE with a 104 degree fever-turns out was caused by strep throat. :( Loie developed a rattl...

This is our normal

A snapshot of our week: Home health care nurse visit Neurology eval Pediatrician followup Infant toddler program visit Occupational therapy .... that was the first day... Next day was ophthalmology followup (every two weeks) more OT Norco medical supply delivery (twice because at 9 pm the oximeter went kaput and they did a night delivery) And so on. I am in a constant state of worry that I've forgotten some important appointment. Ah the life of a "medically fragile/complex" family! Loie is growing! She met her last weight goal, low side, but still met it! She's at 7 lbs 12 now! Struggling to increase her volume of intake cause she spits up a TON and gets refluxy. She has started smiling at her jingly toys! She likes the sound I think :) this is a huge deal to us! Seeing her smile is another big milestone and we are grateful for each one! She also lifts her head really well during tummy time! No "cooing" yet, which is ok cause really she's ki...

Belonging/ Soul Therapy

Day 4 Belonging There is this "club." You join this club when you are a parent who loses a child. You don't have a title as an official member- there isn't one. You join silently. You don't get a big ceremony with other members. You quietly meet them by finding them in areas of your day to day life, and you share a sad knowing smile. You feel their support and you find some solace in the fact that they are the only ones who "get it." No one wants to be in this club. I hate it. But i don't get to quit or unjoin, and I am a known member. Other people in my life now treat me as a known member. When i meet new people, i have a choice to reveal my membership upfront, or have it revealed later,  because at some point, with any real relationship, it will be. There is a sense of separateness within me. Often it is imagined and created by myself. How do I relate to people now? I don't know. Not yet.. I'm still figuring out who I am now. It's o...
