It's hot!!

Time again for a new update- it has definitely shifted to summer weather, and we have two kids just in diapers to keep cool!  Down to business: we have an 8 pounder! Loie finally crested the 8 lb mountain and is gaining better. As of today, 8 lb 4 oz. We've struggled with her slow weight gain. Gone down on her calories, then back up. Gone up on her oxygen then back down. Wrestled with vomiting issues and reflux. Shes on an antacid now and doing much better! She is almost rid of the ROP in her eyes, hopefully one more checkup then done with that! She's been referred to gastroenterology just in case... and also a referral to a specialist to see if she needs a helmet. She has such a strong propensity to turn to the right, and as a result, she has a small flat spot we are trying to combat. She is a rockstar in OT, lifting her head,  showing strong tone in her limbs etc. She is very uncomfortable lying on her left side, so working on that. I wonder if it is residual pain or memory of pain from her chest tube which she had for quite a while. Who knows? Her movements are a bit jerky, but in an ok range for her age still. This morning was exciting for us, as Loie went in for another EEG. Last weekend after Pearl's service, when everyone had left, Loie had an episode of sorts- not sure if it was a seizure, but in her situation, we have to be careful. Shes done it 2-3 times now, starts with a vomit, then her whole body goes rigid, she clamps her mouth shut, arching and grunting, and "foaming" at her mouth for 15-20 seconds, then she cries and settles down again. Seizure? Choking? Reflux? Something else? Trying to find out :)
Lennon has been having fun with all our visitors! He's been sleeping a ton- long naps and sleeping in late, so i bet hes on the brink of a milestone here! He now signs "more" and "open" and has said "hot" "c-at" and pretty close to saying "bear" :) he is working very hard! He got mom in trouble for letting him bring his stuffed Wags the dog to his therapy though..  he was sooo distracted! Wags has been banned permanently. We cant believe he is getting ready to turn two!!! This last year went by so quickly, yet so slowly.. it feels like a double life we lived, with the girls, all their troubles... split focus with Lennon and our "regular" day to day. Its been surreal. Pearls service was beautiful. It was a painfully bittersweet weekend. We love her and miss her so much. Its so hard to relive that day. She was an amazing little girl. It was wonderful seeing friends and family coming together to remember and honor our daughter.  Cant say much else without breaking down still....
On that note, we will be back soon to update more! So proud of our kiddos, so very very proud!

This coming week is going to be a full one, with lots of big appointments and also the usual fanfare thrown in for good measure. To update, Loie has indeed been discharged from her home health care nurse :( Sad face, only because we love Sami and will miss her boisterous personality coming through our door, giving us helpful advice, smiles, and always confident hope! Thank you Sami for seeing us through the rough transition from NICU to home. You have been our training wheels so to speak, and you are not just a nurse, but you are a mom who "gets it" too. I can't believe it has been six months since we took Loie home from the hospital.... Loie weighs exactly 13 pounds now, as of her latest appointment. She had a brief time where she was teetering and even lost a little bit of weight, because we've all been hit hard with autumn-time illnesses. Poor Lennon woke up one night, on FIRE with a 104 degree fever-turns out was caused by strep throat. :( Loie developed a rattl...

This is our normal

A snapshot of our week: Home health care nurse visit Neurology eval Pediatrician followup Infant toddler program visit Occupational therapy .... that was the first day... Next day was ophthalmology followup (every two weeks) more OT Norco medical supply delivery (twice because at 9 pm the oximeter went kaput and they did a night delivery) And so on. I am in a constant state of worry that I've forgotten some important appointment. Ah the life of a "medically fragile/complex" family! Loie is growing! She met her last weight goal, low side, but still met it! She's at 7 lbs 12 now! Struggling to increase her volume of intake cause she spits up a TON and gets refluxy. She has started smiling at her jingly toys! She likes the sound I think :) this is a huge deal to us! Seeing her smile is another big milestone and we are grateful for each one! She also lifts her head really well during tummy time! No "cooing" yet, which is ok cause really she's ki...

Belonging/ Soul Therapy

Day 4 Belonging There is this "club." You join this club when you are a parent who loses a child. You don't have a title as an official member- there isn't one. You join silently. You don't get a big ceremony with other members. You quietly meet them by finding them in areas of your day to day life, and you share a sad knowing smile. You feel their support and you find some solace in the fact that they are the only ones who "get it." No one wants to be in this club. I hate it. But i don't get to quit or unjoin, and I am a known member. Other people in my life now treat me as a known member. When i meet new people, i have a choice to reveal my membership upfront, or have it revealed later,  because at some point, with any real relationship, it will be. There is a sense of separateness within me. Often it is imagined and created by myself. How do I relate to people now? I don't know. Not yet.. I'm still figuring out who I am now. It's o...
